Learn all about Macrocosm
A team of scientists and economists building a better economics for a better world.
Our story
Many critical economic problems don't have clear solutions because we've been using tools that are built for a perfect world. In the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, a group of researchers at Oxford's Institute for New Economic Thinking spent years considering this dilemma. They watched major institutions underestimate the pace of the clean energy transition. They saw conventional models fail to account for the rich complexities that influence real economies. And they kept asking the same question: what if we could do this another way?
So they did. Over more than a decade, the research team developed models that represented economies from the bottom up, mapping individuals and their interactions. Macrocosm was founded in 2023 to translate this work into actionable insights for industry professionals and policymakers who are navigating immense uncertainty, from supply chain disruptions to the energy transition.
